5 Easy Tips for a MESS FREE Pumpkin Carving Session

Pumpkin carving is one of the many highlights of fall and a great way to gear up for Halloween. However, you know as well as we do that it is no easy feat. Not only can this giant orange squash deter the strongest of will, but the slimy, stringiness are no fun when they are strewn across your table, countertops, and floor.
We know it can be a daunting task, but we’re also here to tell you that we’ve got some tips up our sleeve to make it nothing but fun!

Here are some tips to make this messy task easy peasy and less pumpkin squeezy.
Baby Wipes Aren’t Just to Wipe Bums!
Messy hands are given during pumpkin carving. Also, a given are the constant shrieks for the said parent to wipe those tiny hands that keep encountering bits and pieces of pumpkin innards. Keep a package of baby wipes on the table for wiping dirty hands. It may seem like a simple task but it will save you the hassle of running back and forth to clean up small messes while also keeping those hands mess-free (and unable to wipe pumpkin residue on your walls!) Place a small garbage pail near the table for tossing the dirty wipes.
Protect Your Table
Cover your table with newspaper. Try to get every inch so that when you are done, there’s nothing left to wipe. When done, just roll up the paper with the pumpkin guts inside!
Cover Your Floors
If only pumpkin bits could just stick to the table area, life would be great. But, no, we know those stringy bits and fleshy parts are going to fly around as your carving session continues. And if you step on them, now you’ve smeared them on the floor, too! Grab some plastic bags and cover that floor up. Use painter’s tape to hunker those sides down so that the bags do not move as much. Once done, just roll up the bags and throw them out!
Skip the Indoor Preps and Head Outside
Toronto is still experiencing amazing fall weather and what better way to connect even more to the season than by carving your pumpkin outside? Not only will you skip the mess indoors, but it will also be a less stressful cleanup afterwards. Grab a big plastic tablecloth and head on outdoors. When you’re done, simply fold up the tablecloth and toss it away or wipe it down with a wet microfiber cloth for future use. Whatever floats your boat.
Wipe Down Your Pumpkin
Wipe down your what? That’s right! Once you’ve mastered on How to Clean Out a Pumpkin, wipe down the interior of the pumpkin with a mixture of water and bleach. Why? Because the bleach mixture will prevent rotting, enabling you to enjoy your carved designs longer! Plus the smell of bleach can keep other animals away who may want to munch on the pumpkin outside.
